Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on 02/06/2020 from 10:12 am - 12:50 pm. At the time of entrance there were 89 children in care with 13 teaching staff and two administrative staff. The children in care ranged in age from infant - five years. Children were observed during morning program time, lunch and nap. Transportation procedures to & from public school additionally observed. Records were reviewed for eight children and six staff. One violation was observed and is listed on the violation notice. This violation was discussed with the program director at the conclusion of the inspection.
Based on observation, the center failed to ensure that hazardous substances such as cleaning materials shall be kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children. If a key is used, the key shall not be accessible to the children.
Evidence: 1. The key to the laundry room closet was left in the lock which was locked. a This closet is located in the two & three year old class and the door handle was accessible to the children in care. b. Two bottles of bleach and one open container of powdered laundry detergent was observed inside of this closet.
Plan of Correction:
Management will review daily, starting 2/7/20, for compliance with keeping this closet door locked and the key secured out of the reach of children. DM will also review for compliance during school visits.
