Technical Assistance:
Technical assistance in regards to supervision of the children was provided to the director of the program. The following recommendations were made: - program's policy and procedure manual should be updated to reflect current practices and information. - Include more specific procedures on "HOW" to supervise the children. For example, "how" are staff to always be aware of children's activities. What are the audible and visual techniques referenced in the current manual? - Both lead teacher and assistant should understand their specific roles while both being responsible for supervision the children in their care. - Propping the door open while one staff and children enter the building with the second staff at the end of the line closing the door after last child enters building. Once all in the building to perform a head count and check.
Comments:
The licensing inspector conducted an unannounced complaint inspection on 12/07/2023 In response to a complaint that was received in the licensing regarding allegations in the area of supervision. Interviews were conducted with staff, records reviewed and observations of the program were made relating to the allegation. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance(s) with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.
Based on a record review the provider did not ensure all staff had the required fingerprinting.
Evidence: 1. Staff #1 (hired 1990) had an expired fingerprint check, dated 04/23/2018. 2. Staff #2 (hired 1991) had an expired fingerprint check dated 03/08/2018.
Plan of Correction:
The program has a new director who is going through all staff records. Fingerprints will be sent for all staff who do not have them or are expired.
