Technical Assistance:
The new Standards for Licensed Child Day Center's is available on the Virginia Department of Education website.
All staff are required to obtain 16 hours of training annually.
Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today between 7:30 am and 9:30 am. There were 12 children present with 2 staff supervising. The children were observed working on nursey rhymes, individual work and child directed activities. The physical plant, medications and authorizations, staffing and supervision, emergency supplies and emergency evacuation logs, and attendance logs were reviewed. Based on a review of staff records, the center failed to obtain central registry background checks within 30 days of employment.
Evidence: Staff #1 and Staff #2's records do not contain documentation of a completed central registry background check.

We will resubmit the central registry background checks for staff members.

Description:
Based on a review of staff records, the center failed to ensure that within 90 days of employment, staff would have the Recognizing child abuse and neglect and the legal requirements for reporting suspected child abuse as required by 63.2-1509 Code of Virginia.
Plan of Correction:
I will have staff complete the Recognizing Child Abuse and Neglect training.
