Effective January 1, 2025, the VDOE will begin determining compliance with ? 22.1-289.057 of the Code of Virginia, which is legislation passed by the General Assembly in 2020. The law requires all licensed child day programs, religious exempt child day centers that serve preschool age children, and certified preschools to test potable drinking water. The law requires that programs submit their plans and test results to the Virginia Department of Health Office of Drinking Water (VDH ODW) and the Superintendent. If the results of the testing indicate elevated lead levels, the program shall remediate, retest, and resubmit results to VDH ODW and the Superintendent. There is an additional alternative bottled water option that comes with additional requirements. An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on 07/09/2024. There were 36 children, ages 5 years - 11 years, and 5 staff members providing direct care and supervision present during the inspection. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, staff qualifications and trainings, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programs, emergencies, and nutrition. The children were observed during arrival, self-directed activities and mealtime. A total of 5 children?s records, 5 staff records and 1 medication were reviewed. The inspector discussed the following with the provider: children?s records. The inspector arrived for the inspection at approximately 8:00 am and departed at approximately 9:30 am.
The information gathered during the inspection determined no violations with applicable standards or law. No violations were issued.
