Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on 08/30/2023 from 9:20 a.m. to 11:40 p.m. There were 57 children present, ranging in ages from 16 month to four years old with 12 staff supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of six child records and nine staff records were reviewed.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Licensing Inspector at (804) 629-3923.
The inspection findings have been updated as a result of a second step review completed on 10/27/2023.
Based on review of records and interview, the center failed to have written authorization from the parent when administering medication. Evidence: 1. Documentation confirmed that Zyrtec had been administered to child #7 on 5/11/2023, in response to a suspected allergic reaction as prescribed in the instructions on the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Emergency Care Plan in the child?s file. Although the center called the parent before administering the Zyrtec, there was no written parent permission on file authorizing the center to administer Zyrtec for Child #7. 2. Staff #1 confirmed that there was no written parent permission on file to administer Zyrtec for Child #7.
Plan of Correction:
This violation is actually a clerical error. In actuality, the failure was not having the proper authorization. There was authorization signed by doctor and parent that the parent brought to us, The School at Sharon's, LLC. We had the Emergency Care plan on file signed by both the doctor and parent. On that day, the administrator, knowing the child had the Emergency Care Plan on file handled the problem by calling the parent, getting verbal permission to give Zyrtec which is used to prevent an emergency.
