Technical Assistance:
New legislative effective July 1, 2020 discussed - with emphasis on new out-of-state background check requirements for staff.
Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.
A monitoring inspection was initiated on 11/19/2020 and concluded on 12/07/2020. The director was contacted by telephone to initiate the inspection. There were 20 children present and 3 staff. The inspector emailed the director a list of items required to complete the inspection. The inspector reviewed 3 children's records and 1 staff record submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards and a violation was documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.
The Licensing Inspector has reviewed with the director COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care Programs.
Based on record review and interview, the center failed to implement a monthly practice fire evacuation drill.
Evidence: 1. The emergency log for the facility indicated that a fire drill had not been conducted in September, October and November of 2020. a. The program director confirmed the accuracy of this documentation.
Plan of Correction:
A fire drill was conducted on 12/02/2020. Going forward, a monthly fire drill will be implemented.
