Technical Assistance:
Technical assistance was provided regarding what is required for reference checks, orientation, and timing of background checks.
Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.
A monitoring inspection was conducted on 9/30/2020. The Vice President was contacted by telephone to initiate the inspection. There were 12 children present and two staff. The inspector emailed a list of items required to complete the inspection. The Inspector reviewed two children?s records and two staff records submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.
The Licensing Inspector has reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs.

Based on review of documentation and interview with the provider, the center did not ensure that staff received orientation training by the end of their first day of assuming job responsibilities. Evidence: The record for Staff A, with a start date of 9/3/20, did not contain documentation of orientation training.
Plan of Correction:
We created a new form for Orientation training which will be done with the staff member on 10/14/20 and moving forward with new staff.

Description:
Based on review of two staff records, the center did not have documentation of the results of a national fingerprint background check prior to date of hire for one staff. Evidence: The fingerprint results on record for Staff A, with a start date of 9/3/20, were dated 9/8/20.
Plan of Correction:
In the future we will require fingerprinting first, before hire.
