Comments:
A code compliance inspection was initiated on January 31, 2023 and concluded on January 31, 2023. There were 33 children present, ranging in ages from 3 to 5, with 6 staff supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, and medication. A total of 8 staff records were reviewed.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance(s) with applicable code sections and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.
Based on inspection and interview with staff, the center has not established and implemented procedures for a daily simple health screening and exclusion of sick children by a trained person.
Evidence: Staff #3 confirmed that there was not a trained person on site to conduct a daily simple health screening.
Plan of Correction:
The Preschool Director will have the teachers (not including the weekly 30-minute Music Teacher) complete a training with St. Stephen Parish Nurse Diana P. Tiller-Ditchel RN on Daily Health Observations and Screenings on February 7, 2023. The Preschool Director will complete the 2.5 hour course offered through P.A.C.E. titled "Daily Health Observation" by February 28, 2023.

Evidence: Staff #3 confirmed that the staff has not received required information on child abuse and neglect.
Plan of Correction:
The Preschool Director will have all staff who have not completed a training on recognizing, detecting and reporting Child Abuse or Neglect for this 2-22-2023 school year complete the online training offered from the VA DSS website: https://www.dss.virginia.gov/family/cps/mandated_reporters/cwse5691/story.html prior to February 28th, 2023. Each staff will provide a copy of their certificate of completion to the Preschool Director to be kept in their personnel file.
