Technical Assistance:
New requirements became effective on October 13, 2021. The facility has not yet [fully] complied with the following requirements:
- Allergy management plans for those children with diagnosed allergies
- timing of tuberculosis screenings prior to employment
- required documentation of emergency preparedness drills
- required documentation of new employee orientation training.
- policy regarding traumatic brain injury and shaken baby syndrome
The facility is to review the new requirements and work with their assigned inspector to ensure future compliance.

Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, including telephone contacts, documents review, interviews and a virtual tour of the program.

A renewal inspection was initiated on 11/23/2021 and concluded on 11/23/2021. The director was contacted by telephone and a virtual inspection was conducted. There were 42 children present, ranging in ages from 2 YRS to 5 YRS, with 4 staff supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of 3 child records and 3 staff records were reviewed.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-510-P
Description: Based upon review of two children's medications and records and staff interview, the facility has not ensured that when an authorization for medication expires, the parent is notified that the medication must be picked up within 14 days or the parent must renew the authorization.
Evidence:
1. There was an epipen stored at the facility fort emergency use in the event of an allergic reaction of child 5. The parent authorization for administration of the epipen expired in August 2019.

Plan of Correction: The facility responded with the following:
The parent was contacted during the inspection to complete a new authorization form.
A procedure will be put into place to track the expiration dates on medications and authorization forms to ensure that parents are notified of the expiration dates well in advance of expiration. Should an authorization or medication expire, the medication will be returned to the parent as required.
