Comments:
An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted on March 28, 2024. There were 37 children in care with seven staff and two administrators. Children and staff records were reviewed. Children were observed in teacher and self-directed activities in learning center play activities, music and movement and circle time. Additionally, fire and health inspections, first aid kit, emergency equipment, insurance documentation, medication and emergency evacuation drills were reviewed. A single violation concerning the timing of background was found, appears on the violation notices and was discussed during the exit meeting.
Based on record review and interview the center failed to ensure that out-of-state background checks are requested prior to employment. Evidence: 1 - The record for Staff #2 contains documentation that out-of-state background checks were not requested prior to employment. The documented date of hire for Staff #2 is November 1, 2023. a. The out-of-state background check from California was not requested until February 27, 2024. b. The out-of-state background check from Missouri was not requested until February 27, 2024. c. The out-of-state background check from Arizona was not requested until February 21, 2024. 2 - Staff #1 stated that the out-of-state background checks were not requested prior to employment as required.
