Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on 10/7/19 from 10:55am - 12:30pm. During the inspection there were 33 children ages three months old through four years old in care with eight staff. Children were observed participating in various activities in the classrooms, eating lunch, and during rest period. Records were reviewed for five children and five staff during the inspection. Medication, emergency procedures and emergency supplies were reviewed during the inspection. Areas of non-compliance are identified on the violation notice and were discussed during the exit interview.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-570-B
Description: Based on observation and interviews it was determined that the licensee did not ensure that bottles shall not be propped or used while the child is in his designated sleeping location.

Evidence:
1. There was a child sleeping in a crib in the Infant classroom with a bottle propped using a blanket.
2. There was child sleeping in a swing with a bottle propped using a blanket.
3. Staff #6 confirmed that both children were being fed by propping the bottle.

Plan of Correction: The facility responded: Corrected during the visit as the bottles were removed from the swing and the crib. Teachers will be re-trained to hold infants who can't hold their own bottle and to not prop bottles.
