An unannounced "Code of Virginia Section 63.2-1716" compliance monitoring inspection was conducted today from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. 37 children, ages 2 years through 5 years old, were under the care and supervision of 6 staff. Center documents and 7 staff records were reviewed. Based on review of documentation and interview with staff, it was determined that the center did not obtain central registry background check results by the 30th day of employment. Evidence: Staff A's, start date 9/7/18, sworn statement was dated 9/13/19. Staff B's, start date 1/8/18, sworn statement was dated 9/13/19. Staff C's,start date 8/13/18, sworn statement was dated 9/13/19. Staff D's,start date 8/13/18, sworn statement was dated 9/13/19.Staff E's,start date 5/31/16, sworn statement was dated 8/24/17. Staff F's,start date 9/8/09, sworn statement was dated 8/24/17. Staff G's,start date 1/4/17, sworn statement was dated 10/30/19. Staff None of the staff members had central registry background check results in their records.
Plan of Correction:
In the future, the center will ensure that staff members complete a sworn statement and central registry background check within the specified time frames.

Description:
Based on review of documentation and interview with staff, it was determined that the center did not obtain documentation of fingerprint background check results prior to employment. Evidence: Staff C, start date 8/13/19 and staff G, start date 1/4/2017, did not have a fingerprint background check in their records.
Plan of Correction:
The center will ensure that all staff members have a fingerprint background check completed and in their record. The staff members registered for an appointment to have a fingerprinting background check completed during the inspection.
