Comments:
Conducted an unannounced monitoring inspection at 3:27pm. Observed 31 children + 3 direct-care staff. Ratios and supervision were in compliance. Children were observed arriving to/departing from the program, washing hands, eating snack, making a variety of art projects, playing with toys and lego blocks during the inspection. Staff were actively engaged with the children and activities. The program recently moved into new classrooms and the inspector measured the licensed areas. Classrooms were found to be clean and well supplied with toys and equipment for the children. An area of non-compliance with standards and laws reviewed was found. Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-40-E
Description: Based on records reviewed and information obtained from SACC administration, staff failed to follow the medication policies/procedures by not ensuring that an emergency medication was on-site where the child was in care.

Evidence:

1. A medication authorization and emergency action plan belonging to Child #2 indicated that a prescription medication be given in an emergency but the medication was not on-site, as required.

Plan of Correction: Parents were contacted and elected to manually update the file. Child #2 has not needed said medication for several years, parents no longer use Albuterol.
