Technical Assistance:
1. When a medication authorization or the actual medication expires, or when a child leaves care the parents have 14-days to pick up the medications. After 14-days, medications not removed by parents are to be disposed of by staff.
2. Each individual medication, prescription and over-the-counter, is to be labeled with the child's name, name of medication, the dosage amount, and the time/times to be given.
3. Water testing for lead will require compliance by January 2025, More information forthcoming.
4. An environmental health inspection should be scheduled with the County health department.

Comments:
Conducted an unannounced monitoring inspection at 9:35am. Observed 20 children + 5 direct-care staff. + 1 parent volunteer in a primarily outdoor education program. Ratios and supervision were in compliance. Children were observed making jewelry, having circle time, having indoor/outdoor play time, washing hands, eating snack and preparing for a end of preschool commencement event. Staff were actively engaged with the children and activities. The program areas were found to be sufficiently supplied with toys and equipment. Areas of non-compliance with standards and laws reviewed were found. Questions about this inspection may be directed to pamela.sneed@doe.virginia.gov

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-60-A
Description: Based on records reviewed, 1 of 4 children's records did not include documentation of at least 2 emergency contacts. Evidence: The record for Child #15 documented 1 of 2 required emergency contacts-name, address and phone number. The space for the 2nd contact was left blank.

Plan of Correction: Error - noted - procedures reviewed at staff meeting at board meeting 6/4 for coming year
Child no longer in program - correct for coming year

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-510-E
Description: Repeat violation.
Based on records reviewed, the written authorization for a long-term prescription medication did not include a written authorization from the child's doctor. Evidence: There was no documentation of a written doctor authorization for a long-term prescription medication belonging to Child #11. The parent authorization was signed 9/10/23.

Description: Based on records reviewed, the school did not practice a monthly emergency evacuation drill. Evidence: There was no documentation of a monthly evacuation drill in April 2024.
