Technical Assistance:
Discussed standards related to diapering and staff qualifications during the inspection.

Comments:
A monitoring inspection was initiated on 5/7/2024 at approximately 10:06am and concluded on 5/7/2024 at approximately 12:25pm. There were a total of 64 children with 14 staff members present. Children were observed during snack time, fingerpainting, participating in music & movement time, cleaning up after toy play, lining up to go outside, and outdoor play time. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of 5 child records and 6 staff records were reviewed. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program. Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-280-H
Description: Based on observation, cosmetics, medications, or other harmful agents shall not be stored in purses that are accessible to children.

Evidence: A purse was accessible to children in the nursery room.

Plan of Correction: The purse was moved to an inaccessible area to the children.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-510-I
Description: Based on review of children's medication, the center was not able to administer drugs to a child in accordance with the prescribers instructions pertaining to frequency.

Evidence: The prescribers instructions for Child #1 stated that if symptoms do not improve, or symptoms return, more doses of epinephrine can be given about 5 minutes of more after the last dose., but there was only 1 epinephrine auto-injector available for Child #1.

Plan of Correction: The center will obtain a second epinephrine injector for Child #1.
