An unannounced "Code of Virginia Section 63.2-1716" compliance monitoring inspection was conducted on October 11, 2019 from 9:00 AM and 10:50 AM with the director. Seventeen children, ages 3 years through 4 years old, were under the care and supervision of 3 staff. Children were observed eating morning snack and being read books by their teachers. Center documents and five staff records were all reviewed.

Based on a review of document and staff interview, the center did not ensure that daily simple health screenings and the exclusion of sick children were conducted by a person trained to perform such screenings. Evidence: None of the staff were trained to perform daily simple health screening.

The center will ensure that staff members complete daily health observation training.

Description:
Based on a review of documentation and staff interview, the center did not have a policy or procedure to ensure that all areas of the premises accessible to children are free of obvious injury hazards, including providing and maintaining sand or other cushioning material under playground equipment. Evidence: There was no policy or procedure in place to address the maintenance of resilience surfacing.
Plan of Correction:
The center will create a policy and procedure to identify steps of keeping the areas free of obvious hazards and maintaining the cushioning material under the playground equipment.
