Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.
A monitoring inspection was initiated on February 25, 2021 and concluded on February 26, 2021. The director was contacted by telephone to initiate the inspection. There were 33 children present and four staff. The inspector emailed the director a list of items required to complete the inspection. The Inspector reviewed three children?s records and three staff records submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance(s) with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.
The Licensing Inspector has reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs.
Based on review of three staff records, the facility did not obtain an out of state sex offender registry and a out of state criminal history name check for each state an individual has resided in the past five years prior to the first day of employment for one staff member.
Evidence:
1. The sworn disclosure statement for staff #1 indicated the staff had lived outside the state of Virginia in the past five years. 2. The record for staff #1, hired 09/03/2020 did not contain documentation of a out of state sex offender registry check or a out of state criminal history check. 3. The administrator acknowledged the record for staff #1 did not have a out of state sex offender registry and an out of state criminal history check.
Plan of Correction:
Per the administrator: I will provide documentation to the licensing inspector that the out of state background checks have been requested. Going forward, I will ensure the out of state background checks are obtained prior to hire.
