Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.
A subsidy health and safety inspection was initiated on 01/25/2021 and concluded on 02/03/2021. The director was contacted by telephone to initiate the inspection. There were 23 children present with the 2 staff. A licensing inspection was conducted on the same date as the SHSI supplemental inspection. Both inspections combined cover subsidy health and safety regulations. Only subsidy regulations that are not covered in licensing standards are reviewed during this supplemental inspection.
The information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with subsidy regulations, and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.
Based on record review and interview, the center failed to ensure that staff who work directly with children and who are employed prior to October 17, 2018 shall complete Virginia Preservice Training for Child Care Staff sponsored by the Department of Social Services, to include all of the topics applicable to new staff, by March 1, 2019.
Evidence: 1. Written documentation indicates that staff 1, hire date 09/25/2018, has not completed the Annual Virginia Health and Safety Update Training for Child Care Staff. 2. Administrative staff 2 confirmed that staff 1 had not completed the updated health and safety training.
Plan of Correction:
Staff 1 will complete the updated health and safety training.
