Technical Assistance:
Technical assistance was provided, and licensing standards were reviewed regarding crib spacing.

Comments:
An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted on May 23, 2024. The on-site inspection began at 8:45am and ended at 11:15am. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas listed above. There were 49 children present and 11 staff. The inspector reviewed five children?s records and five staff records on-site. This inspection included document review, tour of the facility, interviews, and observations. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law, and violations are documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Violations:
Standard #: 22.1-289.035-B-4
Description: The center shall obtain a copy of the results of a criminal history record information check, a sex offender registry check, and a search of the child abuse and neglect registry or equivalent registry from any state in which the individual has resided in the preceding five years. Staff #2 and Staff #3 did not have out-of-state background checks completed and were present working at the center with children.
Notes:
1. Staff #2 (date of hire 05/20/2024) and Staff #3 (date of hire 9/20/22) reported on their Sworn Statement Disclosure that they lived in another state outside of Virginia in the past five years.
2. Staff #2 and Staff #3 were present at the center working with children.
3. Staff #1 confirmed that there was no out-of-state background check completed on Staff #2 and Staff #3 and that they were both currently at the center working with children.

Plan of Correction: The center responded with the following: Staff #2 and Staff #3 requested the out of state background check during the time of the inspection. The results will be sent to DOE once obtained. Moving forward, all Out of state checks will be completed prior to hire and working with children.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-280-B
Description: Hazardous substances such as cleaning materials shall be kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children. In the front 2-year-old classroom, there were bleach wipes and three bottles of rubbing alcohol with a warning label, ?Keep out of reach of children? that were unlocked and accessible to children.

Plan of Correction: The center responded with the following: The cleaning materials were locked during the time of the inspection. The center will always lock cleaning materials and anything that has, "Keep out of reach of children."

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-500-A
Description: Children's hands shall be washed with soap and running water or disposable wipes before and after eating meals. In the 3-year-old classroom, the children did not wash their hands with soap and running water after eating breakfast.

Plan of Correction: The center responded with the following: The 3 year old classroom went to wash their hands. The center will ensure that they will wash their hands directly after eating breakfast.
