Comments:
An unannounced inspection was conducted from 7:50 am - 9:00 am to investigate a complaint regarding Staffing and Supervision. Based on evidence obtained through classroom observations, interviews with staff, and a review of documentation, the complaint was considered valid. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-350-E-1
Complaint related: Yes
Description: Based on observation and staff interview, the facility failed to maintain the ratio of one staff for every 4 children, ages birth through 16 months. Evidence: On 3/10/2020, at approximately 9:00 am, there were two staff with 10 children in the toddler room. The youngest child (date of birth: 11/13/18) was 15 months old.

Plan of Correction: Ensure that enough qualified staff are scheduled per the number of children enrolled for the class.

Complaint related: Yes
Description: Based on observation, the center failed to maintain the required ratio of one staff member for every ten children, ages three years to the age of eligibility to attend public school. Evidence: At approximately 7:50 am, in the pre-k room, there were 20 children (ages 4-12 years of age) being supervised by one staff member.

Plan of Correction: Ensure that enough qualified staff are scheduled per the number of children enrolled for the class.

Description: Based on observation, review of documentation and staff interviews, it was determined that the center is casually reassigning children from their regular group for reasons other than administrative necessity disrupting the children's schedule and attachment to their regular group. Evidence: The LI observed several children moved to different age group classrooms due to staffing issues. Staff interviews revealed that children are reassigned regularly, whenever necessary to maintain ratios.

Plan of Correction: Ensure that enough qualified staff are scheduled per the number of children enrolled for the class.
