This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.
A code compliance inspection was initiated on March 9, 2021 and concluded on March 9, 2021. The director was contacted by telephone to initiate the inspection. There were 12 children present and two staff. The inspector emailed the director a list of items required to complete the inspection. The Inspector reviewed two staff records submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable code sections and a violation was documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.
The Licensing Inspector has reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs.
Based on a review of two staff records and interview, the center did not ensure there was at least one staff member present that had been trained to conduct daily simple health screenings to exclude children as necessary.
Evidence: The records for Staff #1 and Staff #2 were reviewed. Documentation of staff trained to conduct daily simple health screenings to exclude children as necessary was not observed in the documentation presented to the inspector. The licensing inspector asked the director if the center had a procedure for ensuring a daily simple health screening and exclusion of sick children is implemented. The in-charge person stated a daily health screening is performed but staff have not completed official training on screening for illness at this point.
Plan of Correction:
I was unaware of this requirement. The licensing inspector will send information on how to obtain this training. Once this information is received, the staff will complete the training.
