The Licensing Inspector conducted an unannounced Subsidy Health and Safety inspection on Wednesday July 21, 2022 from approximately 10:30 AM to 12:45 pm. There were eight children in attendance and a total of one staff supervising. A total of five children?s files and two staff files were reviewed. A code compliance inspection was conducted on the same date as the SHSI supplemental inspection.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.
Based on observations, the vendor did not ensure all hazardous substances such as cleaning materials were kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevented access by children. Evidence: Various containers of cleaning products were observed sitting on a shelf in the school age classroom. The cleaning materials were unlocked.
Plan of Correction:
Corrected during the inspection.
Standard #:
8VAC20-790-670-H
Description:
Based on observation and interview, the center did not establish and implement procedures for providing supervision of all children in care, including daily intake and dismissal procedures to ensure safety of children. Evidence: Staff #1 was observed supervising eight school age children. Four children were observed playing in the school age classroom and four children were observed playing on the playground behind the building. Staff #1 stood in the doorway of the classroom and exit to the playground. Staff #1 stated she stands in the doorway while the children that want to play can play outside and the other children can stay in the classroom since it is so hot.
Plan of Correction:
We will talk with Staff #1 to make sure she is either inside the classroom or outside on the playground but will not stand between the door supervising both inside and outside children.
