This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.
A complaint inspection was conducted on 01/21/2021, 01/22/2021, 01/26/2021, 01/27/2021, and 02/03/2021. A complaint was received by the department regarding allegations in the areas of Physical Plant, Staffing and Supervision, and Programs. The director was contacted by telephone to initiate the investigation. Fourteen staff members were interviewed over the phone. One child's record and two staff records were virtually reviewed. The evidence gathered during the investigation supported one of the allegations and the complaint was determined to be valid. One violation was issued.
Based on interviews with 14 staff members and verification from a staff member, one staff member smoked an electronic cigarette in the interior of the daycare building.
Evidence: 1. Staff Member A stated that during her first week of working at the center she smoked an electronic cigarette in the bathroom of a classroom. This happened during the week of December 7th, 2020. She stated she was unaware of the policy regarding vaping. 2. Staff Member B stated she approached Staff Member A about vaping in the bathroom and gave her a verbal warning.
Plan of Correction:
Staff member A was informed of the policy regarding on premises and is no longer employed. Reiterating the policy and procedures for all new staff moving forward.
