Technical Assistance:
Technical assistance was provided in the following areas of the standards: Background checks, staff records, hazardous substances. CPR/First aid training, staff training, play areas, Program Leader qualifications, supervision, Infant feeding, emergency drills, carbon monoxide detectors, and allergies.

Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on 6/2/22 from 9:00am - 12:15pm. During the inspection there were 146 children ages five months old through five years old in care with 26 staff. Children were observed participating in various activities in the classrooms, eating lunch, playing outside and during rest period. Records were reviewed for ten children and ten staff. Medication, emergency procedures, emergency supplies and transportation procedures were also reviewed during the inspection. The information gathered during the inspection determined no violations with applicable standards or law. No violations were issued.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-510-P
Description: Based on a review of the medication being stored at the center, it was determined that the licensee did not ensure that when an authorization expires, the parent shall be notified that the medication needs to be picked up within 14 days or the parent must renew the authorization.

Evidence:
1. The medication authorization for child #11 expired on 4/30/22, but the medication (Epi-pen, Benadryl and Albuterol inhaler) was still at the center.
2. The medication authorization for child #12 expired on 11/22/21, but the medication (Albuterol inhaler) was still at the center.
3. Staff #11 (Program Director) confirmed that the medication had been present in the center for more than 14 days since the expiration of the written authorization.

Plan of Correction: The facility responded: We will have the parents complete a new medication authorization or send the medication home. All medication will be sent home within 14 days of the expiration of the medication authorization.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-570-I
Description: Based on observation and interview, it was determined that the applicant did not ensure that the facility shall maintain a one-day's emergency supply of disposable bottles, nipples, and commercial formulas appropriate for the children in care.

Evidence:
1. The facility did not have a one-day's emergency supply of disposable bottles available fort viewing during the inspection.
2. Staff #11 (Program Director) confirmed that the facility did not have a one-day's emergency supply of disposable bottles currently at the facility.

Plan of Correction: The facility responded: We will ensure that is a one-day emergency supply of disposable bottles available at the center.
