Comments:
An unannounced renewal inspection was completed on Friday, February 28, 2020 from approximately 9:30am to 10:50am to determine the provider's compliance with licensing standards. During today's inspection, there were a total of six children in care totaling 14 points in the direct care of one caregiver. Upon arrival, the children were observed in the designated area for childcare playing with toys. Throughout the inspection, the children were observed during free-play, reading books with the provider, interacting with peers, and playing with playdough. The designated areas for childcare were deemed appropriate and are equipped with age appropriate toys and materials to meet the needs of the children. The bathroom, kitchen, and designated childcare areas were all inspected during today's inspection. The inspector observed the required postings. The first aid kit and non-medical emergency supplies were inspected. Five children's records, one provider's records, and three pets' records were reviewed today. There were no injury reports to review. The provider does not administer medications or provide transportation at this time.

If you have any questions about this inspection, please contact the licensing inspector, Florence Martus, at (804) 662-9772.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-770
Description: Based on observation and interview on 02/28/2020, the provider did not have a working portable battery-operated weather band radio, and extra batteries in a designated area and available to caregivers at all times.

Evidence: 1) The licensing inspector did not observe a working portable battery-operated weather band radio in the home. 2) During interview, the provider reported the radio broke and was not available in the home during the inspection.

Plan of Correction: The provider will purchase a new weather band radio today.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-100-A
Description: Based on a review of five children's records and interview on 02/28/2020, the provider did not obtain documentation of a physical examination by or under the direction of a physician prior to one child's attendance or within 30 days after the first day of attendance.

Evidence: 1) The record for Child #5, enrolled on 09/09/19, did not contain documentation of a physical examination by or under the direction of a physician. 2) During interview, the provider reviewed the record and confirmed a physical examination was not on file for Child #5.

Plan of Correction: The provider will request a copy of the child's physical examination today.
