Technical Assistance:
Consultation was given on a gate being installed at the bottom of the steps and for the outside deck steps to prevent children climbing the steps. Infant walkers are not to be used by daycare children during hours of operation.
Comments:
An unannounced monitoring visit was conducted today. Six children were in care (16 points) with two caregivers. Observed children in free play, diapering and bottle feeding infants, physical space, records for caregivers and children, emergency preparation and equipment and supplies. Lunch to be served today was pizza and bread sticks, grapes and milk. The space is well equipped with a separate area for cribs. The provider will be closed for children in care 12/5/2019-1/7/2020. Based on observation and provider statement, children under two years of age have access to the stairs as no gate was in use upon arrival. Evidence: The provider did not have a gate at the bottom of the steps to prevent access to the stairs for the children in care.

Description:
Based on observation, an accordion expansion gate was placed at the stair opening. Evidence: When the provider put a gate in use it was an expansion gate that was not hardware mounted to the wall to prevent access to the stairs or that would give away under a child's weight.
