This annual subsidy inspection was conducted by the inspector using an alternate remote protocol necessary due to a state of emergency declared by the Governor of Virginia in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Preliminary data was obtained from the vendor on July 1, 2020.
An annual subsidy inspection was initiated on July 8, 2020, at which time the vendor was contacted by telephone to initiate the inspection, and concluded on July 8, 2020. The inspector emailed the vendor a list of items required to complete the inspection.
The vendor reported there were 18 children in care and four staff. The inspector reviewed two children?s records and two staff records submitted by the vendor to ensure compliance with the health and safety regulations.
The Licensing Inspector has reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs.
Information gathered during the inspection determined areas of non-compliance with applicable regulations or law, and a violation was documented on the violation notice issued to the vendor.
Based on interviews, the vendor did not ensure hazardous substances such as cleaning materials, insecticides, and pesticides were kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevented access by children.
Evidence: During the remote inspection, two staff (members of management) stated cleaning products for the staff to use are stored in a cabinet located in the classroom. The staff stated the cabinets are high up on the wall, out of the reach of children, but does not have a locking method.
Plan of Correction:
We will add child safety locks to all of the cabinets.
