Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.

A renewal inspection was initiated on 5/11/20 and concluded on 5/12/20. The director was contacted by telephone to initiate the inspection. There were 13 children present and 6 staff. The inspector emailed the director/provider a list of items required to complete the inspection. The Inspector reviewed 2 children?s records and 3 staff records submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance(s) with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.

The Licensing Inspector has reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs.

Violations:
Standard #: 63.2(17)-1720.1-B-3
Description: Based on a review of 3 staff records, it was determined that the facility did not deny continued employment of a staff who did not have a search of the central registry finding within 45 days of employment from any other state in which the employee has resided in the preceding five years.

Evidence:
1. The record for staff #1 (date of hire 1/29/20) did not contain documentation of a completed search of the central registry finding from Florida and Pennsylvania. The sworn statement indicated staff #1 had previously lived in Florida and Pennsylvania within the last 5 years.
2. Staff #3 (Program Director) review the record for the staff #1 and confirmed that the search of the central registry finding from the states (Florida and Pennsylvania) in which staff #1 previously resided in has not been received.

Plan of Correction: The facility responded: We were unable to locate the search of the central registry checks from Florida and Pennsylvania during the inspection. We will request new search of the central registry checks from Florida and Pennsylvania. All new employees who have lived outside of the sate of Virginia within the last 5 years will have a search of the central registry completed for that state.
