Technical Assistance:
It is also recommended by the American Association of Pediatrics (AAP) that pillows, blankets, sheepskins or pillow-like bumpers in the baby's sleep area should not be used. This practice is in an effort to lower the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).

Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted between the hours of 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm. Upon arrival there were 82 children in care. A sample of 2 staff and 8 children's records were reviewed. Children were observed during nap, sleeping on rest mats. Infants were observed sleeping in cribs and being rocked in a bouncer by staff.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A
Description: Based on observation the center did not ensure all areas and equipment of the center, inside and outside, were maintained in a safe condition.
Evidence:
The large composite play structure on the playground had areas of peeling and chipping paint.

Plan of Correction: The following corrective action was provided by the assistant director during the exit interview:
Maintenance will be contacted to sand and repaint areas that are peeling and chipped on the outside play structure.

Description: Based on observation the center did not ensure hazardous substances were kept in a locked place.
Evidence:
In pre-k room #5, there were 6 containers of disinfectant wipes on a shelf in the bathroom.

Plan of Correction: The following corrective action was provided by the assistant director during the exit interview:
The staff in the classroom removed all containers and placed them in a locked area.
