Comments:
A code compliance inspection was conducted on Tuesday, May 16, 2023. The inspector was on site from 3:20pm to approximately 4:20pm. There were 27 children in attendance with three staff directly supervising. During the inspection, the children and staff were observed participating in a variety of activities. Staff were observed having positive interactions with the children. The children were observed washing hands and later going outside to eat a snack as a group. All areas of the facility including classrooms, hallways, the outdoor play area, and bathrooms were inspected. The center provides transportation and all requirements were found to be in compliance. Five children's records and three staff records were reviewed.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.
Based on a review of three staff records and interview, the center did not ensure one staff completed a required background check every five years.
Evidence: 1) The most recent fingerprint-based national criminal background check in the record of Staff #1, employed on 02/28/01, was completed on 04/14/2023. The previous fingerprint-based national criminal background check was completed on 03/26/2018. The repeat background check should have been completed no later than 03/26/2023.
2) During interview, a member of management acknowledged the fingerprint-based national criminal background check for Staff #1 was not completed within the required timeframe as required.
All applicants for employment, employees, applicants to serve as volunteers, and volunteers shall undergo a background check in accordance with subsection B prior to employment or beginning to serve as a volunteer and every five years thereafter.
Plan of Correction:
Already corrected. All other repeat background checks will be obtained prior to expiration.
