Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 to determine the center's compliance with licensing standards. The inspector arrived at the center at 8:30am and concluded the inspection at approximately 9:45am. The center's director assisted the licensing inspector throughout the inspection. The census for today?s inspection consisted of 27 children in the direct care of three staff members. Upon the inspector?s arrival, the children were observed in the gym playing with caregivers and their peers. Later, the children were observed during their morning circle time. Staff were observed having positive interactions with the children and assisting them throughout the inspection. The classrooms are decorated with the children?s artwork and are equipped with age and stage appropriate materials. The center had the following posted: license, daily schedule, emergency numbers, evacuation maps, menu and various parent information. The first aid-kit and non-emergency supplies were inspected and found complete. Per the director, there are no medications on site at this time. One bus was inspected today. During the inspection, five children's records and five staff's records were reviewed. The most recently documented fire inspection was on 06/19/2019. The most recently documented health inspection was on 07/15/2019. The most recently practiced evacuation drill was documented on 07/03/2019. The most recently practiced shelter-in-place drill was documented on 06/20/2019. Violations from the previous inspection were reviewed for correction. There were no repeat violations found. If you have any questions about this inspection, contact the licensing inspector, Florence Martus, at 804-662-9772.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-60-A
Description: Based on a review of five children's records on 07/30/2019, the center did not ensure that two children's records contained the required information. Evidence: 1) The first emergency contact listed in the record for Child #1 (DOE: 06/17/2019) is the child's parent. 2) The two emergency contacts listed in the record for Child #3 (DOE: 06/17/2019) are the child's parents. Each child record shall contain the name, address, and phone number of two designated people to call in an emergency if a parent cannot be reached.

Plan of Correction: The director will obtain other emergency contacts for the records and remind parents not to use their own information as emergency contacts.
