Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia. A monitoring inspection was initiated on 5/26/2021 and concluded on 5/26/2021. The director was contacted by telephone to initiate the inspection. There were 36 children present and 6 staff. The inspector emailed the director a list of items required to complete the inspection. The Inspector reviewed 3 children?s records and 1 staff record submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliances with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the facility. The Licensing Inspector has reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs. Based on review of one staff record, the facility failed to have documentation of two references as to character and reputation as well as competency, checked before employment. Evidence: there were no documented references on file for Staff A.

Based on review of two emergency medications, the facility failed to have written parental authorization to administer two medications. Evidence: the short term medication authorizations signed by the parent for two emergency medications for Child 1 expired 4/24/2021.

Based on review of emergency drill log and staff interview, the facility has not conducted the minimum of two shelter in place drills in the past 12 months. Evidence: the last shelter in place drill was conducted 4/14/2020.
