Licensing inspector reviewed ? 63.2-(15)-1509 Code of Virginia: The following persons who, in their professional or official capacity, have reason to suspect that a child is an abused or neglected child, shall report the matter immediately to the local department of the county or city wherein the child resides or wherein the abuse or neglect is believed to have occurred or to the Department's toll-free child abuse and neglect hotline.
Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted to investigate a self-reported incident regarding the forbidden action of rough handling of a child enrolled in the center. The inspection was initiated with the center director and assistant director on December 13, 2019 beginning at 11:50 AM and ending at 12:10 PM. Staff interviews and a review of documentation and video recording was completed on December 13, 2019. One staff interviews was conducted on December 17, 2019. Additional staff interviews and an exit meeting were conducted on December 30, 2019.

Based on a staff interviews and review of video recording and written documentation, a staff member utilized a forbidden action by roughly handling a child at the center. Evidence: Staff A was observed on video recording and admitted to roughly handling a child at the center on December 2, 2019.
Plan of Correction:
The staff member was terminated immediately by the center. Staff members were retrained on behavioral guidance and the proper way to pick up a child.
