Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on 9/14/19 from 1:35pm until 4:10pm. At the time of entrance, there were 112 children in care with 14 staff present. A sample of 10 children's records and 10 staff records were reviewed. Children were observed participating in afternoon montessori lessons, indoor play, eating snack and transitioning between activities. Hand washing, toileting and diapering procedures were also observed. Medication, first aid and emergency supplies, documentation of emergency practice drills, children's injury reports and center postings were reviewed. One violation in the area of background checks is identified on the violation notice and was discussed with administrative staff during the exit interview.
Based on record review and interview, the center did not ensure that they obtain the results of the fingerprint based background check prior to the first day of employment.
Evidence: 1. Staff 1 has a hire date of 11/19/18. The results of the fingerprint based background check for staff 1 was not received until 12/3/18. 2. Administrative staff confirmed that staff 1 began employment prior to the results of the fingerprint background checks being received.
Plan of Correction:
Going forward, all fingerprint based background checks will be obtained before new staff begin employment.
