Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.
A monitoring inspection was initiated on 01/21/2021 and concluded on 01/26/2021. The director was contacted by telephone to initiate the inspection. There were 49 children present and 10 staff. The inspector emailed the director a list of items required to complete the inspection. The inspector reviewed 3 staff records and 4 children's records submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliances with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.
The licensing inspector has reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care Programs.
Based on observation, the center failed to ensure that areas of the center shall be maintained in a safe condition.
Evidence: 1. A crib was placed in front of the emergency exit door in the infant classroom when this room was viewed at 10:25 am on 01/26/2021. a. This is a fire safety hazard in the event that the children need to be evacuated quickly out of the classroom.
Plan of Correction:
The crib was moved during the inspection. Staff will be reminded not to place any equipment in front of the emergency exit door.

Description:
Based on record review, the center failed to obtain a copy of the results of a criminal history record information check and sex offender registry check from any state in which the individual has resided in the preceding five years. The results must be obtained before the individual begins employment or volunteer service.
Evidence: 1. Staff 1 has a hire date of 01/11/2021. The results of a criminal record check and sex offender check from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania were obtained on 01/22/2021. a. Staff 1 indicated on her sworn statement or affirmation she had resided in Pennsylvania within the past five years.
Plan of Correction:
Going forward out-of-state background checks will be obtained prior to employment.
