Discussion that the final regulation to amend Standards for Licensed Child Day Centers (22VAC40-185, now 8VAC20-780) to address federal health and safety requirements will become effective on October 13, 2021. Discussion about USDA requirements with regards to snack in morning and afternoon. The Licensing Inspector asked for clarification to the on site menu. Once matters were clarified, center was found to be in compliance.
Comments:
A monitoring inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, including telephone contacts, documents review, interviews, and a virtual tour of the program.
This inspection was initiated and concluded on 9/30/2021. The Director was contacted and a virtual inspection was conducted. There were 25 children present (in 4 classrooms), ranging from 5 months to 4 years in age, with 5 staff supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration; physical plant; staffing and supervision; programming; medication; special care and emergencies; and nutrition. A total of 5 children records, and 8 staff records were reviewed.
Information gathered during the inspection determined that there were non-compliances with (2) applicable standards. These violations were documented on the Violation Notice issued to the program.

Based on review, 1 of 5 children files determined that the center did not obtain documentation of additional immunizations once every six months for a child under the age of two years.
Evidence - 1. On the date of inspection (09/30/2021), the current immunization page on file for Child #3 was dated - 02/25/2020. 2. Information on file at the child day center confirmed that on the date of inspection Child #3 was under the age of two years.

The parents will be contacted to obtain updated documentation.

Description:
Based on review, 3 of 8 staff files reviewed indicated that it has been more than 2 years since the date of the most recent tuberculosis (TB) documentation on file.
Evidence - 1. On the date of inspection (09/30/2021), the following staff had TB documentation older than 2 years: Staff #1 (dated - 09/26/2017), Staff #6 (dated - 08/24/2018), and Staff #7 (dated - 09/07/2018). 2. This was confirmed on the date of inspection by the Center Director.
Plan of Correction:
Updated documentation shall be obtained and placed on file.
