Comments:
A renewal inspection was conducted on 09/06/2023. The inspector arrived at 10:10 AM and departed at 10:40 AM. There were no children present as the building has been renovated and needed approval prior to the children starting care this fall. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. Three staff records were reviewed.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program and discussed with the program director, maintenance crew and administrative staff during the exit interview.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-270-A
Description: Based upon observation, the facility has not ensured that areas of the center are maintained in a safe condition.
Evidence;
1. The stairs to the climbing structure on the playground has an area where the metal has step has rusted through, leaving a 3 inch by 3 inch hole. Other areas on the steps show signs of rust.
2. There is a long metal pipe extending from the back wall of the building that is not securely attached to the wall.

Plan of Correction: The facility responded with the following:
1. The steps are currently being repaired by maintenance who have not yet finished the repairs. The climbing structure will be roped/taped off to ensure the children cannot access the steps until repairs are completed.
2. The metal release valve pipe will be securely attached to the back of the building.
