Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, including telephone contacts, documents review, interviews, and a virtual tour of the program.

A complaint inspection regarding the care of children was initiated on 11/17/2021 and concluded on 11/18/2021. The provider was contacted by telephone and a virtual inspection was conducted. There was one child present (2 points), with the provider supervising. The Inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, programming, special care and emergencies and nutrition. One child's record and one caregiver record was reviewed.

After careful review of all available information, this complaint was deemed not valid; however, one violation not associated with the complaint was cited.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and one violation was documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-240-A
Complaint related: No
Description: Based on virtual observations, it was determined that areas and furnishings of the family day home, inside and outside, have not been maintained in a clean, safe, and operable condition.
Evidence:
The Inspector observed the following safety issues in the backyard play area:
1 - The children's picnic table has several areas of peeling paint.
2 - There is a wooden barrier surrounding the mulch bed of the playground space. The height of this barrier, and the space between the barrier and the flat ground, are such that they have created a tripping hazard for the children.
3 - Along two sides of the concrete patio, the edge of the patio is approximately the height of a street curb. Because the children play and run in this area, the height of the patio edge has created a tripping hazard for the children and a hazard that the children could fall and hit their head.

Plan of Correction: 1 - I will throw away the picnic table.
2 - I will remove the wooden barrier.
3 - I will plant bushes along the edges of the patio.
