Technical Assistance:
Discussion on storage of hazardous materials and fire safety.

Comments:
A monitoring inspection was initiated on April 20, 2023. There were a total of 10 children (3 children were providers) and 2 staff members present. Children were observed eating snack (pretzels with milk and water), circle time and musical movement s motor skills. Staff were actively engaged and interactive with the children.

The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of 2 child records and 2 staff records were reviewed.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-800-280
Description: Based on observation, the provider did not ensure potentially poisonous substances were stored away in areas inaccessible to children.

1. In the play area, there were approximately 10 bottles of alcohol located on top of a cabinet shelf.
2. The cabinet shelf was located in a play area where children were observed playing.

Plan of Correction: The provider moved all bottles of wine and other alcohol from on top of the cabinet shelf.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-320-A
Description: Based on observation, the provider did not ensure small electrical appliances such as, but not limited to, curling irons, toasters, blenders, can openers, and irons shall be unplugged unless being used by the caregiver.
Evidence:
1. A toaster was plugged and not in use.
2. The children were at sitting at the table and in high chairs eating pretzels during the time of observation.

Plan of Correction: The toaster was unplugged during the visit.
