Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was completed on 8/27/19. There were 15 children present with three staff supervising. Five children's records and three staff records were reviewed. Three emergency/as needed medications were reviewed.
The inspector arrived at the school at 10:00 am and departed at 11:45 am.
The children were observed during center time, during a large group social/emotional activity, and during lunch. The playground was observed; the children were going out on the playground after lunch.
Based on observation, the center failed to ensure that children three years of age or younger were not offered foods that were considered to be potential choking hazards.
Evidence:
1. There were 15 three year old children observed to be served and eat whole (mini) hot dog nuggets. The nuggets were breaded whole hot dogs. The children were observed eating the whole hot dogs which are considered potential choking hazards.
Plan of Correction:
When the inspector addressed the potential choking hazard with the staff, the staff cut the hot dog nuggets lenghthwise to prevent the potential of a choking hazard.
