An unannounced complaint inspection was conducted on 08/22/2023. There were 68 children, ages 2 months- 4 years, 15 staff members providing direct care and supervision and various support staff present during the inspection. Staff were interviewed and documents were reviewed. The inspector arrived for the inspection at 12:30 pm and departed at 1:00 pm.
The information gathered during the complaint inspection did support the complaint and therefore the complaint was determined to be valid.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the provider.
Based on interviews with staff and document review, the center failed to ensure that when a center chooses to provide meals or snacks, the center shall follow the most recent, age-appropriate nutritional requirements of the Child and Adult Care Food Program of the United Stated Department of Agriculture.
Evidence: All of the required components for snack were not provided on 8/16/2023. Snack requires 2 of the following 5 components: fluid milk, meat/meat alternate, vegetables, fruits, and grains. Staff 1 confirmed, and the menu indicated that on 8/16/2023 the children were served a ?snack cake and juice?. Staff 1 confirmed the ?snack cake? was a ?Twinkie?. A Twinkie does not meet one of the components.
Plan of Correction:
Provider will review menu and adjust to meet the requirements.
