Technical Assistance:
Effective January 1, 2025, the VDOE will begin determining compliance with ? 22.1-289.057 of the Code of Virginia, which is legislation passed by the General Assembly in 2020. The law requires all licensed child day programs, religious exempt child day centers that serve preschool age children, and certified preschools to test potable drinking water. The law requires that programs submit their plans and test results to the Virginia Department of Health Office of Drinking Water (VDH ODW) and the Superintendent. If the results of the testing indicate elevated lead levels, the program shall remediate, retest, and resubmit results to VDH ODW and the Superintendent. There is an additional alternative bottled water option that comes with additional requirements. The statutory requirement can be found online at https://law.lis.virginia.gov/vacode/title22.1/chapter14.1/section22.1-289.057/.

Comments:
An unannounced Monitoring Inspection was conducted today. There were a total of 10 children(25pts) with 3 staff onsite today. The children were free playing in the programming space at the beginning of the inspection and transitioned to smaller group activities. The older children sat at an activity table and began to color and engaged with staff while they completed this activity. The children transitioned to hand washing and began to prepare for lunch. Some children were seated in high chairs and the older children were seated at a table. Staff were spaced apart to ensure adequate supervision while the children ate. Lunch today was rice, chicken with vegetables and milk to drink. Fresh fruit was served after their lunch. The children finished lunch and washed their hands and sat on the floor while others finished hand washing. They began to transition to outside to play. A total of 5 children's files, all staff files, emergency drills and required postings were reviewed. The previous violations from the last inspection was reviewed and the corrections were verified. Observation of the two nap rooms, kitchen and bathroom and the outside play area was made. As a reminder, the trampoline is not used during operating hours and the pack and play piece of equipment is prohibited to use for sleep. This inspection began at 10:45am and ended at 12pm. Thank you for your cooperation today. Please email me at: lisa.hudson@doe.virginia.gov with any questions.
Based on observation of the family day home, potentially poisonous substances were stored in an area accessible to children. Evidence: Bleach bottles were stored on the floor of the bathroom located off the nap room. The door to the bathroom was unlocked.
Plan of Correction:
This door was immediately locked and will remain locked and the cleaning products will be inaccessible to children.
