Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.
A monitoring inspection was initiated on 10/23/2020 and concluded on 10/24/2020. The director was contacted by email to initiate the inspection. There were 16 children present and 6 staff. The inspector emailed the director a list of items required to complete the inspection. The Inspector reviewed 2 children?s records and 4 staff records submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.
The Licensing Inspector has reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-N
Description: Based upon review of the medication stored at the facility for administration to the children and staff interview, the facility has not ensured that when medication is no longer to be administered the parent is notified to pick up the medication within 14 days or the medication is disposed of by the center.
Evidence:
The facility had an albuterol inhaler for child 3 stored in the medication box. According to the program director, the child stopped attending in March 2020.

Plan of Correction: The facility responded with the following:
The medication will be disposed. In the future, when a medication authorization expires, the parent will be contacted to pick up the medication. If the medication is not picked up by the parent, it will be properly disposed.
