Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.
A monitoring inspection was initiated on April 6, 2021 and concluded on April 7, 2021. The director was contacted by telephone to initiate the inspection. There were thirteen children present and six staff. The inspector emailed the director a list of items required to complete the inspection. The inspector reviewed two children?s records and two staff records submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance(s) with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.
The Licensing Inspector has reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care Programs.
Based on review, facility did not ensure 2 of 2 employees have required out of state background checks when an individual has lived outside the state of Virginia within the past 5 years.
Evidence: The records for staff #1 (start date 2/4/2021) and staff #2 (start date 2/1/2021) had documentation of living outside the state of Virginia within the past 5 years and there was not documentation of a criminal history check and sex offender registry search for the state/district listed. Owner confirmed the background checks were not completed as she was not aware of the new requirements that went into effect July 2020.
Plan of Correction:
The background checks will be submitted today. In the future, these background checks will be completed prior to hiring any staff that have lived outside the state of Virginia within the past 5 years.
