22VAC40-185 ADMINISTRATION. 22VAC40-185 STAFFING AND SUPERVISION.
Comments:
The Licensing Inspector conducted an unannounced complaint inspection on 8/8/19 in response to a complaint that was received in the Licensing office on 7/18/19 concerning staff-to-child ratios. Observations were conducted, staff were interviewed, and documentation was reviewed during the investigation. Based on the information gathered during the investigation, the evidence supports the complaint and is deemed to be valid. The area of non-compliance associated with the complaint is on the attached violation notice.
Based on on observation and interviews, it was determined that the facility did not ensure that when children are regularly in ongoing mixed age groups, the staff-to-children ratio applicable to the youngest child in the group shall apply to the entire group.
Evidence:
1. At approximately 7:32am there were nine children in care in the School Age classroom with only staff #1 present.
2. Staff #1 stated that the youngest child present in the group was two years old., therefore the required staff-to-child ratio of one teacher for every children was not maintained.
3. Staff #2 arrived at approximately 7:40am, and moved one child from the School Age classroom.
4. Staff #2 confirmed that the facility did not maintain the required staff-to-child ratio from 7:32am to 7:40am.
Plan of Correction:
The facility repsonded: The ratio was immediately corrected while the inspector was present. Before the inspector exited
the learning center, all students were in ratio.
