Technical Assistance:
Effective January 1, 2025, the VDOE will begin determining compliance with ? 22.1-289.057 of the Code of Virginia, which is legislation passed by the General Assembly in 2020. The law requires all licensed child day programs, religious exempt child day centers that serve preschool age children, and certified preschools to test potable drinking water. The law requires that programs submit their plans and test results to the Virginia Department of Health Office of Drinking Water (VDH ODW) and the Superintendent. If the results of the testing indicate elevated lead levels, the program shall remediate, retest, and resubmit results to VDH ODW and the Superintendent. There is an additional alternative bottled water option that comes with additional requirements. Comments:
An unannounced, on-site monitoring inspection was initiated and completed on July 8, 2024. The on-site inspection began at 12pm and ended at 2pm. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas listed above. There were 21 children present and 5 staff. The inspector reviewed 5 children?s records and 5 staff. This inspection included document review, tour of the facility, interviews, and observations. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law, and violations are documented on the violation notice issued to the program.
The center is required to obtain background checks every five years. The most recent central registry check for Staff #2 was dated 3/30/2019, and their criminal background check dated 2/26/2019.
Plan of Correction:
The center responded with the following: An appointment was made for Staff #2 to have fingerprints completed and for the CRC to be completed online. The center will send the results once obtained and kept in the staff file.

Description:
The center shall obtain documentation of additional immunizations once every six months for children under the age of two years. Three infants, under the age of two years, did not have documentation of additional immunizations.

The center responded with the following: Immunization records were requested via the Brightwheel app during the time of the inspection.

8VAC20-780-270-A
Description:
Areas and equipment of the center, inside and outside, shall be maintained in a safe and operable condition. Several outdoor toys in the playground area were broken and cracked posing pinching or injury hazards to the children in care.
Plan of Correction:
The center responded with the following: The center threw away all the cracked and broken toys in the playground area during the time of the inspection. The center will look at replacing some of the toys.

8VAC20-780-580-B
Description:
Any vehicle used by the center for the transportation of children shall meet the safety standards set by the Department of Motor Vehicles and be kept in satisfactory condition to assure the safety of children. The transportation van has an expired State inspection dated March 2024.
Plan of Correction:
The center responded with the following: Center immediately took the van to get a State inspection. It was completed on July 9, 2024.
