63.2 Child Abuse & Neglect

Technical Assistance:
Discussed with infant staff that when infants are awake, they should be out of cribs, pacifiers with stuffed animals attached may not be used in the cribs. Discussed ways to date infant bottles. Tape cords to bottle warmers to the counter to secure them. Use the far left corner for young infant tummy time.
Suggested organizing staff records in each folder to make documents easily accessible. Suggested developing a binder for staff training certificates.

Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted from 8:45 am-11:30. There were a total of 6 children with 4 staff members present. Children were observed during snack time, educational computer games and ball play in the infant room. A selection of staff and children records, and other documents were reviewed. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-60-A
Description: Based on a review of children records, the center has not maintained two designated people to call in an emergency for each child.
Evidence: The record for child #3, date of enrollment 10/2/19 does not have 2 people to contact in an emergency, the parent has only listed one contact.

Plan of Correction: I will have another conversation with the parent asking for a second contact.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-570-E
Description: Based on observation and staff interviews, prepared infant formula is not dated and labeled with the child's name.
Evidence: The bottles for child #1 and #2 are labeled with the child's name but not dated.

Plan of Correction: We will date each bottle as it is brought into the center.A reminder to date bottles will be sent to parents.
