Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.
A monitoring inspection was initiated on August 13, 2020 and concluded on August 13, 2020. The director was contacted by telephone to initiate the inspection. There were 64 children present and 20 staff. The inspector emailed the director a list of items required to complete the inspection. The Inspector reviewed five children?s records and five staff records submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and a violation was documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.
The Licensing Inspector has reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs.
Based on review of five staff records, the center did not ensure two records contained the required information.
Evidence: The records for Staff #4 and Staff #5 did not contain documentation that two or more references as to character and reputation as well as competency were checked before beginning employment.
Plan of Correction:
Reference checks for the employee in question were reported as complete, yet not properly archived in the employee file. Administrator that was previously in charge of this is no longer with the company. We have a newly established system in place to archive reference checks electronically along with in the employee file. Site administration will be responsible for ongoing compliance. Reference checks will be reestablished for this employee.
