Technical Assistance:
Discussed requirements for medication storage and requirements for medication authorization forms.

Discussed changes made to the licensing standards and code of Virginia effective 10/13/2021.

Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today from 11:00am-12:15pm. There were 49 children directly supervised by 8 staff. The physical plant, 3 staff records, 4 children?s records, medications, evacuation drills, injury reports, emergency supplies, and policies were inspected. Children were observed participating playing outside, making crafts with sea glass, practicing letters as a group, playing with dramatic play props, and building with blocks. There was an assortment of age appropriate materials for the children in care. The center was clean and organized. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the Violation Notice.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-160-C
Description: Based on record review, one staff member's record did not contain the results of a Tuberculosis screening at least every two years.
Evidence:
The Tuberculosis screening for Staff 1 was conducted on 1/5/2020.

Plan of Correction: We will inform the staff member that an updated screening will be required if they return to teach in the fall.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B
Description: Based on observation, not all hazardous substances were kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.
Evidence:
Cleaning sprays, and disinfectant aerosol sprays were observed in and on top of an unlocked cabinet in the girls restroom.

Plan of Correction: Hazardous chemicals will be moved to the cabinet and the cabinet locked.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-G
Description: Based on observation, not all hazardous substances were kept in original containers, and the substitute containers did not clearly indicate their contents.
Evidence:
An unlabeled spray bottle containing a pink liquid was observed on top of the cabinet in the girl's restroom.

Plan of Correction: The spray bottle was found to be left by the cleaners in the morning. It will be returned to them as soon as possible.

Description: Based on observation, not all medications except for those prescriptions designated otherwise by written physician's orders, including refrigerated medication and staff's personal medication, were kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.
Evidence:
A tote bag containing two children's medications was observed stored on a hook on the back of the door in "Room D".

Plan of Correction: The medication was stored out of reach of children. We will purchase and implement a locking system for the medication.
