Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia. A complaint inspection was initiated on 1/26/21 and concluded on 2/1/20. A complaint was received by the department 12/30/20 regarding allegations in the areas of medication. The director was contacted by telephone to conduct the investigation. The inspector emailed the director a list of documentation required to complete the investigation. The evidence gathered during the investigation supported the allegation of non-compliance with standards or law and violations were issued. Any violations identified during the course of the investigation can be found on the violation notice.
Based on interviews and a review of documentation, it was determined that the facility did not ensure that whenever the center has agreed to administer prescribed medications the administration shall be performed by a staff member who has completed Medication Administration Training (MAT).
Evidence: 1. Documentation provided by the facility indicates that child #1 was given medication (Eucrissa) on 10/6/20 by Staff #1 and staff #2, 10/12/20 by staff #3, and 10/22/20 by staff #2. 2. Staff #4 reviewed the medication log and confirmed that child #1 was give medication by staff that had not completed the Medication Administration Training (MAT).
Plan of Correction:
The facility responded: All staff members that are not MAT certified have been informed to not give topical creams if it is a prescription. Staff #1 will be enrolled in a MAT training class. Staff #2 and staff #3 are no longer with the company.
